Medical Tourism

Ouch! My first real Texan cactus.
A real down home Texan truck.

These pictures are all from my various medical travels this summer. In June, I spent four days in Lubbock, Texas, at Texas Tech University's International Pain Institute. The Institute occupied a homely little campus of buildings that would have befitted an elementary school better than a "world-class" pain centre. In this case, we could judge a book by its cover!
On Tuesday, July 20th, I visited the University of Washington's Dr. John Loeser. In contrast, this neurosurgeon's office was housed in a beautiful new surgical centre that looked more like a VERY expensive architect's fantasy than a hospital. Everyone from the front-desk information staff to the clerks to Dr. Loeser himself were incredibly professional, accommodating and great at their jobs. Go U-dub!

Hi Jocelyn,

Congrats on your graduation from another branch of Tomkinsons! I spotted your article on the SFU website and just wanted to say hi. (I also graduated from SFU in 2005)

Good luck with Grad School.

In June, I had a party - but not just any kind of party! It was a party to celebrate what hasn't yet happened, and to thank those who have been involved in my life over the past year. June '04 was the one-year anniversary of when my pain problem started, and so I wanted to find a way to mark it in a positive way; a happy memory in a year filled with unhappy ones. I invited everybody who has been a part of the journey this past year and especially those who have carried, pulled or dragged me along the way! It was held at Heather and DJ DeVries' house, my neighbours and family, and drew about forty people. The party wound up with an impromptu visit by a firefighter friend and his rig.

Will (my brother) and our two nephews, Michael and Aaron spent Canada Day at Queen's Park in New Westminster this year. The Solomon pictures are from Sol's trip to QP the following week... apparently his big thing is stopping to smell flowers... every single one of them!
